Everything Fun has Rules
“Aviation in itself is not inherently dangerous. But to an even greater degree than the sea, it is terribly unforgiving of any carelessness, incapacity or neglect.”
-- Captain Alfred G. Lamplaugh

Captain Matt has spent many years as an aviation safety professional, both during his career as a Naval Aviator and in his capacity as a Flight Instructor and Airport Manager. These rules are not in place to curtail the fun, but rather to ensure we can all go out for a safe day on the water and come back breathing in one piece (and ensure the boat is reusable) at the end of the day. Please review the boat rules and, if applicable to the adventure you are considering, the SCUBA and Spearfishing rules. If you have any questions about any of these rules, how they pertain to your adventure or why they are in place, feel free to call/text Matt, and he will be happy to talk you through the particulars of any of these rules.
Boat Rules
-
Safety First: Right to Halt
Any crewmember or guest can call a halt to any activity or operation if they feel unsafe, and their concern will be addressed immediately without judgment. -
Supervision of Minors
Every excursion must have more adults onboard than persons under 16. Each person under 16 must be supervised by a designated adult at all times. -
Return to Shore Option
If any passenger feels unsafe, uncomfortable, or is not enjoying the experience, they can request to return to shore at any time, no questions asked. -
Speargun Safety
No loaded spearguns are allowed outside of the water. Spearguns must be unloaded and secured when not in use. -
Follow Crew Instructions
Passengers must follow all instructions from the captain and crew promptly, especially during emergencies or safety procedures. -
No Running or Horseplay
Running, jumping, or roughhousing on the boat is prohibited to prevent falls or injuries. -
Alcohol and Substance Policy
No excessive alcohol consumption is allowed. Illegal substances are strictly prohibited. The crew reserves the right to limit or refuse alcohol service and/or return to shore early if safety is compromised. -
Stay Seated While Moving
Passengers must remain seated in designated areas while the boat is underway, unless given permission by the crew to move. -
Know Emergency Procedures
All passengers must attend a safety briefing before departure, covering life jacket use and other protocols. -
No Diving from Boat
Diving or jumping off the boat is prohibited unless it is part of a supervised activity (e.g., snorkeling or diving excursion) and approved by the crew. -
Respect Equipment
Passengers must handle all boat equipment (e.g., fishing gear, snorkeling equipment) with care and only use it as instructed by the crew. -
No Littering
All trash must be disposed of in designated receptacles. Throwing anything overboard is strictly prohibited to protect the marine environment. -
Health Disclosure
Passengers must inform the crew of any medical conditions, allergies, or mobility issues that could affect their safety or participation in activities. -
Swimming Ability
Passengers participating in water activities must disclose their swimming ability to the crew. Non-swimmers or weak swimmers must wear life jackets at all times in the water. No judgement at all; we just want to keep everyone safe. -
No Unauthorized Areas
Passengers are prohibited from entering restricted areas (helm station, cabin compartment forward of helm) unless invited by the crew. -
Weather Awareness
The captain has final authority to alter or cancel the trip due to weather conditions. Passengers must respect these decisions for safety. -
No Tobacco Product Use
Smoking and other tobacco product use is prohibited on the boat at all times. -
Personal Belongings
Passengers are responsible for securing their personal items. The charter is not liable for lost or damaged belongings. -
Respect Marine Life
Passengers must not touch, harass, or collect marine life or coral during water activities to protect the ecosystem. -
Boarding and Disembarking
Passengers must wait for crew instructions before boarding or disembarking and use handrails or assistance as needed to prevent falls. -
Hydration and Sun Protection
Passengers are responsible for staying hydrated and using sunscreen, hats, or protective clothing to prevent sunburn or heat-related issues. -
No Unauthorized Gear
Passengers may not bring personal watercraft, drones, or other equipment unless pre-approved by the charter operator. -
Group Accountability
Passengers traveling in groups are collectively responsible for ensuring all members follow these rules. -
Emergency Contact Information
All passengers must provide emergency contact details to the crew before departure in case of an incident.
SCUBA Diving Rules
-
Dive Certification Required
All divers must present a valid scuba diving certification card (e.g., PADI, NAUI, SSI) from a recognized agency before participating in open-water dives. Non-certified divers may only participate in supervised “Discover Scuba Diving” programs, if offered. -
Dive Plan Adherence
Divers must follow the dive plan provided by the dive leader, including maximum depth, bottom time, ascent rates, and safety stops, to prevent decompression sickness or other risks. -
Buddy System Mandatory
All dives must be conducted with a buddy unless under direct supervision of a dive professional. Divers must stay within visual contact of their buddy and check air supply and status regularly. -
Equipment Checks
Divers are responsible for inspecting their own equipment (e.g., regulator, BCD, tank pressure, fins) before each dive, with a buddy check performed under crew supervision. Rental gear must be checked with dive staff. -
No Solo Diving
Solo diving is prohibited unless the diver holds a specific solo diving certification, has appropriate redundant equipment, and receives explicit approval from the dive leader.
Spearfishing Rules
-
No Loaded Spearguns Outside Water
Spearguns must remain unloaded and secured when not in use or outside the water to prevent accidental discharge. -
Spearfishing License and Regulations
All participants must possess a valid spearfishing license (if required by local laws) and adhere to local regulations, including size limits, bag limits, and protected species. -
Supervised Activity
Spearfishing is only permitted under the direct supervision of a designated crew member or guide trained in spearfishing safety. -
Buddy System Mandatory
Spearfishing must be conducted with a buddy at all times. Participants must stay within visual contact and regularly check on each other’s status. -
No Spearfishing Near Other Activities
Spearfishing is prohibited in areas where other water activities (e.g., snorkeling, swimming, diving) are occurring to avoid accidents. -
Safe Handling and Storage
All spearguns and spears must be handled with care, stored securely when not in use, and inspected for damage before each use. -
Respect Marine Life and Environment
Only target permitted species, avoid damaging coral or other marine habitats, and do not pursue or harass non-target species. -
No Spearfishing While Impaired
Spearfishing is prohibited if under the influence of alcohol or drugs. -
No Stringers
All speared fish will be brought immediately back to the boat. No spearfisherman will continue hunting while carrying or towing speared fish on their person. -
Emergency Procedures
Participants must be briefed on and follow emergency procedures for spearfishing incidents, including first aid for injuries and protocols for lost divers.
